Late in the summer of 2013, Noelle and I
began discussing the possibility of moving out of the Tri-State Area
(NYC in particular) as we were ready for a change in our life. Noelle's
biggest request was that if we moved away from our life in Manhattan
that she would prefer a warmer climate. Given that my career dictated
where we could call home, our choices seemed rather limited to the
suburbs of NYC, the Chicago area or San Francisco.
While Noelle seemed willing to explore opportunities elsewhere, I also knew that I did not want to make this move without a commitment to our future together. After quite some planning and preparation, on August 31st I asked to marry me in the Central Park Conservatory. Much to my relief and excitement she said "yes!"
With wedding celebrating and planning in full swing, I begin to quietly continue my job search. Remembering the initial conversations Noelle and I had about finding a warmer climate, I mostly ruled out Chicago as I know how bad the bitter cold winters can be. Seen as though I had never visited San Francisco before I went back to the drawing board with Noelle to see if this would be a suitable location to establish ourselves.
While San Francisco was never going to be the San Diego she desired, she understood the limitations my career placed on our possibilities and was excited and ready for the application process to begin. Before I knew it I was talking with two firms in San Francisco who seemed interesting but neither provided everything I was looking for regarding time frame and role in the firm. It was than, that I came across a job posting in Incline Village, Nevada.
From the moment I saw the job posting in Incline Village, I knew this was a place where I could live the rest of my life. I was familiar with the firm that had been located in Incline since the mid-80's and while I had never visited before everything I heard about the Lake Tahoe Lifestyle seemed to fit what I wanted in life. However, I knew this was no longer a decision just for me. I remember coming home from work in early September to bring up the idea of exploring this possibility. Knowing no one at the firm, I simply wanted to submit my resume and see if anything came of it. With no hesitation Noelle was on board and we begian the application process.
Two months later, who would have thought --- Noelle and I had both made trips to the Tahoe area and we were ready to accept the job opportunity that would take us 2,724 miles across the country.
We began our goodbye process in NYC and made preparations for movers to come just before Christmas. As expected Noelle's family, while excited for us, were not thrilled with us moving away from the place she had always called home but they will understand our decision once they come see the place we now call home.
After 2-weeks living out of suitcases while our stuff traveled across the country we made it to Incline Village on January 4th and began the process of settling in to our new home. There a certain things that will never compare to what we had in Manhattan but I must admit the views here never get old.
Our plan is to use the blog as a means of communication to share stories, experiences, frustrations and all the other good things that come with starting our new life in Lake Tahoe.
